Monthly Update (I have decided to go with a monthly update as there are some weeks that have more to discuss than others.)

Let me start by acknowledging the frustration out there about the flu vaccines.  The school will do it's best to convey information as we have it.  This is an extremely busy month.  Please check the list of dates on the home page.  Our first term has come to an end for grades 3-5.  You should all be proud of your students.  They have been working extremely hard.

It has been awhile since my last entry.  Families are currently having a blast at the Halloween Party in the cafeteria.  The Preschool and Kindergarten will have their Halloween parades next Friday on October 30th.  I would like to encourage all families to come in and help out at  a PTO event, volunteer in a classroom or just visit the school. The students are truly doing some amazing work in their classrooms.

It is short week with no school for our students on our two inservice days on Thursday and Friday.  The second PTO meeting for the year is Tuesday night at 6:30.  There is also no school on Monday, October 12th for Columbus Day.  The RIF Book Distribution is on Oct. 16th.  The PTO is sending a notice home shortly.  As we get into colder weather I want to remind people that students will still go out for recess.  Please have them wear weather appropriate clothes to school(although it can be hard with these cool mornings and warm afternoons.)

Congratulations to everyone for almost completing the first month of school.  This week we had three students from the United Kingdom visit out school and teach a history of the United Kingdom lesson to a group of third graders.  The students walked their hearts out during the Martin Walk-a-Thon on Thursday.  You may have noticed that when you call your child out sick that we have been asking for symptoms.  This is a way for the school to monitor any potential outbreaks.  The first grade will have their Apple Festival later today.  They have been learning about Johnny Appleseed and apples.  There is a lot of excitement in the first grade hallway today for their special day.
